Interns in India

For three weeks in January, 13 Calvin College students will travel to Hyderabad, India to attempt an experiment in experiential education. The students—majors in business, accounting, economics, political science and English—will work in internships in nine Hyderabad businesses. One student will work as a finance intern for a large real estate developer; one will work as a a production and operations intern for a cotton spinning mill; another will work as an talent sourcing intern at a human resources staffing company. Several will work as marketing or HR interns for companies that do medical transcription. Others will intern at a training and counseling firm, a information technology company and other companies.  All of them will be working for Christian business owners or managers and learning the concept of “business as mission.” This grand experiment is also a partnership between Calvin and Partners Worldwide, the coordinator of the internships. Business professor Leonard Van Drunen and his wife, Karen, are managing the project, and everyone on the trip will be writing in the blog. Feel free to follow along …
